Essay on the Value of First Year Writing Courses

Essay on the Value of First Year Writing CoursesWriting essays on the value of first year writing courses has many challenges that first year students need to be ready for. John Duffy, a graduate of UMBC's English department, provides an introduction to first year writing courses. His personal experience of his first year writing course from first-year, along with his experience of a second year class, are the lessons in this first year essay on the value of first year writing courses. It is hard to learn an academic course in the first year of college. The first year students should know the difference between a pile of books and a pile of garbage. The first year students should know the meaning of books written on a page. First year writing classes should not only give knowledge but also confidence to the students. The students who are taking the course should know about their personal life, family, friends, and their school and work life. We also need to know about the course struct ure in the first year, from syllabus to sample assignments and projects. The essay on the value of first year writing courses should also provide information about the material and student expectations in the first year, such as readings, working on papers, taking tests, participating in discussions, and writing essays. In this course, I found the professor was very inspiring and encouraging. I got the feeling he knows that many students will fail this course. The essay on the value of first year writing courses was one of the most challenging assignments I have had so far. I was afraid of writing a paper, as it is much easier to write an essay but I had no fear and succeeded in this course. I like the challenge and fear I had in the class, it motivated me to work harder.I like to do the assigned reading first before going to lecture hall. It will help me to feel comfortable in the class and know what I should do before the lecture. I like how we were able to do the reading and get d one with the assignments before class.I am not sure if they are needed but the assignments are very important part of the course, especially when you don't know much about what you are doing. My professor always gave us a deadline for the assignments to be completed by the deadline, which made me more focused to do my homework and I know the deadline is really close. The assignments always gave a chance to a student to see how well they are able to finish the homework assignment. You will learn how to manage your time in the class and you will learn how to prepare yourself for the next section, which is a critical part of the first year. When I did the essay on the value of first year writing courses, I learned that I need to think of the paper and how I want to make it better. I should do my research before the topic. I should prepare myself and also look for examples in the literature. Finally, I need to find a good topic that I can relate to and write about.
